In the past decade, clothing sales have risen by 60 per cent – that's two million tonnes of clothing a year we're consuming, more than half of which ends up in the bin. When the buttons come off, she replaces the shirt as she says it's cheaper and easier than sewing them back on. One woman I know buys her children's shirts from the supermarket.
SEW ART PROMO HOW TO
Not only have we, as a nation, largely forgotten how to sew our own clothes, we've also lost the art of "make do and mend". I carried on making my own creations, though – a batik skirt from a sheet a green and black lace Goth dress – all appallingly sewn, until I did what everyone else does and started buying stuff from the high street. My mum bought me one from Topshop, which had multiple pockets sewn on by some poor woman in India instead. It looked like a navy potato-sack, and where I hadn't been able to fit the zip, I'd just tagged on extra bits of material. Exclusions apply.Like forcing prisoners to make their overalls, my first sewing project was to make my own school-uniform skirt.

I just can’t help but think how cute these would be with some mini embroidery hoops. So much so that I decided to make a second one with a teal mini floral pattern, pink fabric and pink pom pom trim. There is just something so bright and cheery about this combination of fabrics! I am absolutely smitten with how this came out. Once the excess fabric is glued you have a clean design that is ready to hang. This will give a finished look to the front of the hoop. Along the inner hoop add a bead of Fabri-Tac and glue the extra fabric to the hoop. Fabri-Tac works great on wood and fabric. Trim back your excess fabric leaving about an inch of overhang, be careful not to cut it too short. Trim the excess length of your pom pom trim that is beyond the wooden hoop. Make sure to pull the fabric tight so there are no bumps. Add your top hoop sliding it down over your fabric and inner hoop. Position your fabric into final placement. To disassemble, loosen the top screw and the tension will release the inner hoop. Step Five- How to Assemble No sew embroidery hoop artĮmbroidery hoops have two hoops. I like to glue this in 2 inch section to ensure I am gluing in a straight line. Using Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac glue the top edge of your trim to the top edge of the buffalo check (or top) fabric. Measure your trim leaving about a half inch on either side of the hoop. There are a lot of fun trims to accent your hoop art. I got this as Joann’s in the trim section they sell it by the roll or you can have them cut to size just like fabric. My favorite part of this project has to to be the pom pom trim. I suggest doing this on a craft mat and not on a counter or directly on a piece of furniture. Place your top fabric back into position and smooth it out with your finger. Along the top edge pull back your top fabric and glue along the top edge. Remove the embroidery hoop and line your fabrics up placing them into the desired position. I cute this pieces 5 inches tall by 14 inches wide. The buffalo check fabric will fill about 1/3 of the embroidery hoop. I chose the buffalo check fabric as the secondary pattern. Step Two- Cut your accent piece of fabric Don’t cut too close to the hoop you will need the excess fabric to finish your hoop art. I left a border around the hoop cutting a 14 inch by 14 inch square. Since I am using a 10 inch embroidery hoop I laid that over my floral fabric which I am using as a base layer or my main pattern. I paired this beautiful watercolor floral with a black buffalo check plaid. It’s unexpected and give visual interest to the art. Fat quarters and remnants work great for making hoop art. I suggest 12inch and 8 inch embroidery hoops if you want varying sizes on your wall. Want to make some felt flowers to add to your hoop art?
